These Hollywood actors went through the audition process for certain roles and here are their audition videos for projects they wanted to star in.

Matthew McConaughey

He was invited to audition for the role of David Wooderson for the movie Dazed & Confused. For the 20th anniversary of the movie, Criterion Collection released exclusive audition tapes. Casting director Don Phillips was in a bar Austin, Texas when he spotted Matthew.

The actor shared in an interview, Matthew shared that he knew a bartender from film school who worked at the Hyatt and would give them a discount. When they went to the bar, he was told that the casting director was in town to make a film.

Brad Pitt and Robert Downey, Jr.

Brad Pitt auditioned for the role of Chicago firefighter Brian McCaffrey in Backdraft during the 90s and Robert Downey, Jr. also auditioned for the same role. However, neither of them got the acting stint as the character was played by William Baldwin who was originally chosen to play the character of J.D. in Thelma & Louise. He pulled out from that project last minute to star in Backdraft. Brad Pitt eventually got the J.D. role which catapulted his career.

Seth Rogen

He auditioned for producer Judd Apatow during a local casting call for Freaks and Geeks in early 1999, after he won the Vancouver Amateur Comedy Contest. Seth was just 16 years old back then. Other stars who auditioned for this film and landed on different roles were James Franco, Jason Segel, Linda Cardellini, Busy Philipps, and Martin Starr .

Hugh Jackman

He auditioned for the character of Wolverine in X-Men in 1999. At first, the role was not given to him. It was first given to Dougray Scott who already started filming. However, Hugh was able to get the Wolverine role when Dougray was forced to drop out because of scheduling conflicts with Mission: Impossible II.

Aaron Paul

He became a household name when he landed the role of Jesse Pinkman on Breaking Bad in 2007. Showrunner Vince Gilligan decided not to eliminate the character because he realized that losing Paul would be a huge mistake. 

Robert De Niro

He auditioned for the role of the hot-headed gangster Sonny Corleone in The Godfather in 1971. Robert did not get the role as it was given to James Caan. However, he was able to play the character of ito Corleone in The Godfather Part II two years later. He was an Oscar for this.

Leonardo DiCaprio

He auditioned for a role on the short-lived TV version of The Outsiders in 1990 and got a small part in the pilot episode. Fox canceled the show a few weeks after it premiered but this did not stop Leo’s career to skyrocket with his next projects.
